OK, where are you guys and gals? I know of only a few Notes/Domino people in the Atlanta area. There's the famous ones like Rocky Oliver and Christopher Byrne (a.k.a. File Save). Who else is out there?
I work with probably one of the best developers in the country, Alec Black, who does Domino development and more. Then there's my best friend, Tim Wilson, who is probably the best admin in the country. And that's because, he like Alec, do more than just Notes/Domino. Both of these guys are well rounded and can solve any problem thrown in front of them.
Then there's my old friend, Gary Goodman. He's an admin type but I'm not sure if he's still doing Notes/Domino administration anymore or not. And how about, Ron Tessemer. He's been doing Notes/Domino programming for quite a while and even does asp development as well.
So how 'bout it? Any others want to throw their hat into the ring and admit they do Notes/Domino. Who knows, perhaps if there is enough of us we can start up an Atlanta Lotus Users Group. Then we can get Ed Brill himself to come and visit us.
there is a BoF at Lotusphere on user groups, and there will be an announcement at Lotusphere about an umbrella user group organisation. Stay tuned...
My name is Keith Strickland and I'm also based here in Atlanta. I am employed as a Domino Administrator, but I wear both the admin and developer hats.
Keith
@Ed - Great news Ed. I'll see if I can make the BoF.
@Keith - Hi Keith, where in the Atlanta area are you working? I'm in Norcross near Jimmy Carter and Buford Hwy.
Jack,
You only think that you know the best Admin :)
Dale and I ARE the best. We work for a global telecom/aerospace company in the Cumberland mall area. We would love to see a Users Group restarted. Just set the time and the place!
Bob
@Bob - sounds great!
Hey Dale and Bob! Maybe if we can get this UserGroup off of the ground then Jack could say he also knows the #2 and #3 best admins as well :)
I honestly think a UserGroup is way over due.(even though the company I work for is slowly.... uh.... quickly pushing N&D out the door and pushing me to learn O&E and .NET programming) Even with that I will have multiple Domino Servers running way into the future.... they just haven't come to grips with it yet... Domino IS the best platform for some things!
I like Keith wear two hats as well, oh I take that back.... I lost count of the hats that I wear..... I just wish everybody didn't make fun of most of them!
Many Things....
MOST Things.... Yea, don't even start that hate mail from the Notes/Domino Lovers.... You have to admit, Notes and Domino isn't perfect for everything...... that is what they make Linux and J2EE for! (what? You actually thought I was going to say Microsoft?)
Tim,
I agree with you!
About what you say?
Well, a can can best be opened with a canopener and a nail can best be driven with a hammer. While it is possible to drive a nail with a canopener and open a can with a hammer its usually better to use the right tool for the job.
=:-O
P.S. That means if you are creating a transactional system (billing, payroll, ...) Notes/Domino can do it, but other tools can do it more productively...
Bob
